Well Robert, I gave it a shot. I get the icon pointing to Firefox, and it gets as far as loading the application, then it quits.
I also tried Scott's suggestion using 'apt-cache search firefox' and I get a small bit of dialog indentifying the application, but that's about it. I seem to have trouble running executables outside of the built-in software in general. It's strange since I have root level access and can perform any admin tasks I want to. Thanks for the help so far. I'm open to any other suggestions.
