Hmmm... I never ran any Linux except Red Hat, so I can't speak to Kubuntu directly. I could be wrong, and began asking myself if I gave you bad info after I posted it (most apps do require at least a 'make install') but I figured that if I was wrong, at least one (or twenty<g>) old-timers would have jumped on my post, and corrected it. I really do seem to remember Firefox and Thunderbird as being just what I described... unpack-and-run. The file 'firefox' is a start-up script, so I opened it up and took a peek, and I am a little surprised that my Firefox install runs, because neither of these two lines are correct... the directories they point to do not exist: moz_libdir=/usr/local/lib/firefox-1.5.0.8 MRE_HOME=/usr/local/lib/mre/mre-1.5.0.8 ...but, my half-assed install does pass the test in this comment: # Use run-mozilla.sh in the current dir if it exists # If not, then start resolving symlinks until we find run-mozilla.sh ...so it runs quite well, in spite of my non-standard installation. Looks like I just got lucky, though. -- -wittig http://www.robertwittig.com/ . http://robertwittig.net/ To unsubscribe from this list, please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] & you will be removed. Yahoo!
