I'd considered doing just that, but it would be simple and brute-force
and wouldn't teach me anything new about how linux does things.  :) 
If I'm going to be an admin, even as an unpaid volunteer, I ought to
learn some damage control and repair techniques :)  And even though
the users aren't supposed to store anything they want kept on the
system, I'd have to check anyway so as not to honk them off.

I will simply delete-and-recreate if no other advice is forthcoming.
