Hi

I've been using Mandriva (Mandrake) since 8.xxx, and it is still my
Distro of choice.

If you can be more specific about whether you are going to duel boot,
or do you need help with partitioning, problems with hardware
detection etc, I will do my best to help.

> How did you arrive at the decision to use Mandriva? It is not a
typical choice. Mandriva is not an entry level distro and it is a
commercial distro.

Mandrake used to be considered one of the most Newbie friendly
distros, but problems with the 10.xx releases made people look
elsewhere. Since the rise of Ubuntu, Mepis and PCLOS, they have
struggled to regain their market share. I stuck with it because it was
the best fit for my hardware at the time.

The most recent release (2008) is very good, easy to install and comes
with a Free edition. The commercial version has some extra drivers and
commercial software pre-installed (eg Cedega, LinDVD (useless)). I
think all the extra drivers are available via the PLF repositories
anyway. I'll be switching to Free with the 2009 release because my
subscription the the Club will have ended.

good reasons for choosing Mandriva. I used Mandrake (now Mandriva) for
two years. I found the support to be weak and the distro was full of
problems.

Have to agree here, got all my help from outside Mandrake/ Mandriva
support or Forums, there is a very active newsgroup.
