Actually, (and possibly surprisingly) it really doesn't.  It can make
use of such capability, but people run it on old hardware too--as it
will use somewhat older software, it probably runs better than Fedora on
lower end hardware.  

That being said, I run it primarily on servers, because it's more of a
server O/S--I did, however, put it on a laptop, and actually it was
fine, though I had to manually update the sound drivers (and wireless,
but the card in question requires that with every current non-alpha
distro.  The particular card, the Atheros AR5007EG won't be supported
till kernel 2.6.27).
