I did a fresh install, nothing added except the updates. I even went so far as
to use a 10 GB disk that I had and installed Hardy, then partitioned with
Intrepid (about 50.50) and installed Intrepid on the other partition. I then
updated Hardy and then Intrepid. I used a stopwatch to time the shutdown times
and got 17.02 seconds for Hardy, and 3:14.11 for Intrepid. I am getting similar
results on my Windows/ Intrepid dual boot on another computer.
