Thanks,

Well Fedora reboots after install with only a smiley face and "?" flashing in
the middle of the screen.  Probably the ATI video card, at least OpenSuse
installed, booted, but couldn't find the Internet until I rebooted, and said no
updates available finally.

Now to see if this is an easy fix, if not on to try the Debian PPC DVD.  Maybe
with Apple dropping support for the new OS X from Mac non-Intel CPUs will help
Linux?  I can only hope some programmers are given some of these Macs to
practice on, mine cost me only $15.00 at a college surplus sale.

Learning Linux, like anything else is rewarding in the end.

There are twelve PPC distros listed on www.linux.org' s page. A few
are only for that platform. In addition to the ones mentioned below are
Mandriva, Debian, Gentoo, MkLinux, Yellow Dog, ELinOS, SourceMage, PLD, and
Intrinsyc. Go to: http://www.linux. org/dist/ list.html and input PPC in the
platform box. You can also sort Distrowatch by architecture and it has many
more listed such as CentOS, Crux, Rock, Slackintosh, T2 SDE and Vine. So there
is quite a bit of choice. As for how good they are...

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Mac G4 Linux Live CDs

Hi Everyone,

I came across one of these towers with 384 RAM, now it has 1 gig RAM that I
knew to be either PC100 or PC133 depending on what was needed. The CPU is 450
MHz, the 20 gig HD no longer booted OS X, so I found the Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD to
test it out. Now I'm installing the latest OpenSuse PowerPC DVD.
Unfortunatedly, there were no updates, or did I burn the wrong iso file?

I have the latest Fedora PPC to try on another hard drive, since I have very
little Mac software I wonder if I'll go that route. But it is disappointing
there are so few Live or install distros for this plateform. Anybody have some
favorites links for new MacPPC Linux users? Or other info?

Thanks,

Joan in Reno
