Windows ME? Are you serious? That was a dog to begin with. You have to be hard
up to use it! :) There has to be a better solution. I have lots of Windows
licences from old computers. Over the years I have thrown out half a dozen. I
don't think that ME is still supported, so you are probably okay using it as it
is. You can find ways to patch most versions of Windows so that it defeats the
protection. Just Google for it. I am not sure how legal this is, but you can
probably do it in good conscience if you have a legitimate licence. Microsoft
may not see it that way, but as far as I know nobody has been taken to court
over it.

Hi, Dave!
As a Newb myself, I took the advice of someone (I believe it was
Loyal) and replaced Vista on a new Dell Vostro 1510 (great price, good
performance, the ONLY reason I bought a Vista-loaded machine) with
Mint (Elyssa) and loaded VBox, and I am blown away! Still haven't
messed with my wireless yet (couldn't get it right under Windows), but
it was totally unreal how well my (fresh) copy of XP ran under
VBox...I recommend it whole-heartedly! !! I guess your main prob would
be with using an already-registered version, no? I also installed
(don't ask why) a system-restore version of Windows ME under VBox and,
other than installing very slowly, it runs...well, as well as it did
on my old desktop. I made up a registration number on the
installation screen and never allowed the connection to MS, then just
ignored the horrible "register your software" window and went along.
Maybe there's a way to bypass the registration? Or, worst case
scenario, you could buy another license from M$...ugh, what a
disgusting idea!!!
Anyway, Mint is fantastic, VBox is unbelievable, and I want to thank
Loyal or whomever it was who recommended it to me!
