The burning programme of choice for most Linux users is k3b which is part of
KDE, but most Gnome users use it as well. If it is not installed it should be
installed through Synaptic and it automatically generates checksums when it
creates an iso file. To verify this create an iso with it and then open it from
Tools | burn ISO image and it should load the checksum and confirm it
automatically. Brasero, the Gnome burner, may do it as well, but I don't use it
so can't say.

You can create one manually from the terminal as here:
http://linux.byexamples.com/archives/198/md5-checksum-how-to/

Another good tool is Furious which uses Fuse and it is described here:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/furius-iso-mount-mount-and-unmount-iso-images-with-gui-tool-in-ubuntu-linux.html

Isomaster can be found at Getdeb.net or in the repositories. It is sometimes
useful.

Hope this helps,
Roy

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] working with md5 in Mint

When archiving files and burning them to disc I like to create a md5
signature file of all the files on the disc (including
sub-directories) which I can check after burning to ensure that there
were no burn errors.

In looking for a program to do this in Mint I found the program
md5deep which I believe can do what I want. I used Package manager to
download and install the md5deep program. I can see that an executable
file called md5deep was created in the /usr/bin folder but no shortcut
was created in the start menu.

My question(s) is how do I run this file and how do I create a
shortcut for running the file in future?

Thanks,
Dave
