Go with redhat 9, it should be perfect. If you want to try more 
"modern" version try with knoppix first and see if it will run fine 
or not.

For more challenging setup try slackware 9. I used to have pentium 2 
233 mhz and pentium 200mhz machine, KDE or gnome or e16 should run 
fine but you will need to get the "older" release eg gnome 1.XX or 
kde 2.XX. newer release will hog the machine.
