Response to Mayuresh & Parag's emails.
The point here is that the government provides a
monopoly by legislation to certain services which
included (and mostly still does) electricity,
phones, net access, railways, roads, oil, and
many others. Amongst the various reasons cited is
that these monopolies will provide service to all
the humble citizens of the country. That 70% of
the country does not have a place to shit is a
different matter altogether.
Now do you have a choice?. Yes you do - getout.
Which is what most "clever" guys did. But some
"dumb" guys like us choose to stay back with our
dreams (and refuse greenbacks and Yens) and bring
about change. We set up industries and bribed
polticians & bureaucrats for doing so, payed
taxes and got raided, and criticised the system
no end. The result was slow and long in coming,
but it did come.
So today you can choose ISPs (albeit one worse
than the other), buy some decent cars, setup
industry (with much reduced bribing) and shout
about ISPs instead of muddy water and potholed
roads. Lets hope that in a few years time we
could shout about only 1mbps bandwidth instead of
100mbps and how the government is refusing to
endorse use of ILUG-BOM Linux Super cluster
kernel 6.0 I (indian) inplace of R... :-).
So Mayuresh keep shouting and Parag keep
reminding and ILUGERs tread the path to that
super cluster kernel. We all have a role to play
in this wonderful land.
