In my humble experience with hitech and
"advanced" countries Indians are second to non as
far as innovation, complex thought and capacity
to work goes. We seem to not perform on the whole
because of size and democracy. Gains tend to
disappear without trace. Both these are of course
short term disadvantages. Malthusian theory seems
almost demented in the light of ageing of Japan
and US. And no sane person would like Stalin to
deliver economic progress. Slower adoption of
"progressive" tecnology also protects us from the
latest fads and pitfalls (Minimata bay, Three
Mile Island, Chernobyl).
Working abroad provides you with infrastructure
which was built by others half a century earlier.
So you have good transport and Telecom, large
industrial bases, access to services etc. all
sorely lacking here. Therfore on a relative scale
we have done as well as anybody else and without
side effects like killing 90% of the local
population or having kids shooting each other in
school.
India is like the elephant - slow, steady, wise
and most important, achieves what it wants to,
all in good time.
We can and we are improving , being in the thick
of things though, we dont notice. My relatives
coming from down under, US & Canada after a
couple of years, cant believe what they see and
are surprised at the tremendous progress.
So keep going and the rest will follow.
