Put this in your startup scripts and watch your disk performance
zoom. Notably, no skipping when playing MP3s:
/sbin/hdparm -u1 -c1 -m16 /dev/hda
/sbin/hdparm -u1 /dev/cdrom
Warning: If these settings aren't enabled by default, it's
because they don't work for anyone. Make sure you man hdparm and
check what you're letting yourself in for.
And please, we know that it's you writing. You don't have to tell
us that.
