I suffered with that card (AD1812) for 2+ years...tried everything ..
excepting the commercial OSS drivers...but Im pretty sure they do not
work in 16 bit mode too.
- heres the soln. I got:
1. set up a proper isapnp ( all 5 devices .. or 4 without joysick).
2. use sb ( 8 bit mode ).
3. configure esd.conf ( esd sound daemon "/etc" in RHL. )..with ..
esd -b -r 22050 ( etc.. etc... see /usr/doc/esound*/esound.sgml )
where
-b : force 8 bit mode.
-r : set rate to 22050 (22k, 44k etc... ) note that 22000 will not
usually work... i got errors with that...
for mp3 files... mpg123.. with all the reqd. options..
tip: try not to set the rate for decoding below 44k... sound may
distort...
try fooling around with the frame rate. ... the exact quality will be
system dependent.
All the best...
