ACM stands for Association of Computer Machinery. http://www.acm.org/
They have several sigs (special interest groups) and chapters all over the
world. Most of the biggies in the computing world have been members of
ACM, and have contributed important articles. Many of the best algos in
use today have come out of the ACM.
I can't name names off the top of my head, but the next time anyone goes
to acm.org, check them out.
