Mail from ILUG-BOM list (Non-Digest Mode)

I did change the /etc/hosts yet it gave me errors.
This is what i did:
this is what i had in /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
then i changed to:
127.0.0.1 mycomp mycomp.ind
is this right??
even after doing this when i type hostname it gives me:
localhost.localdomain
also when i restart the machine it says during startup somthing likethis:
starting hostname localhost.localdomain [OK]
when i check my file /etc/hosts it shows me:
127.0.0.1 mycomp mycomp.ind
ie its not yet changed
i dont know what to do??

Change the name using the command "hostname <newname>"
Be sure to change the entry in /etc/hosts or some services will keep giving
error messages.
