Delphi never had a strong-hold in India though, IMO, it beats the pants
of VB (atleast it did till v3.0, which is the last version I ever used). I
believe it was (is?) quite popular in Europe though. Anyways, it is rather
strange that they are calling Kylix, VB for Linux. But maybe this
Borland-India specific. I don't think the Inprise guys like Microsoft too
much. Check out:

Well, cross platform programming is not a bad idea if it can be done
without too much of a hassle. Windows does have some good applications
written in Delphi (For instance, I think the popular HomeSite HTML editor
was written in it...) If these applications can be ported to Linux, it
would be rather cool. Only problem is such ported software may not be Open
Source. And even if it is, only those who have Kylix would be able to
compile it on a Linux box. Also, using Kylix would be a rather radical
departure from the standard unix set of development tools. And I don't
think that is such a good idea.
In any case, it is possible to code cross-platform GUI apps already using
wxwindows (http://www.wxwindows.org). An example of such an app is the
GTK+ e-mail client Mahogany.
