Hi all,
I have been trying to install qmail on my system and i have landed up with
a strange problem. I have been going step-by-step according to INSTALL.*
files in the source. I was able to get qmail to work and it reports success
for a test message which I sent to root from root.
But the message never reached the mailbox. In fact there is no root file in
the /var/spool/mail folder. It contains files for "alias" apparently
created and maintained by qmail and for "sameer" a non-priviledged user on
the system. The "alias" file seems to have recorded all messages as well as
error messages generated during the qmail trials, but none were delivered.
But mails that I tried to send from "root" to "sameer" were correctly
delivered to the "sameer" spool. But when I log in and type 'mail' at the
prompt it says "No mail for Sameer."
Whats wrong? Do I need to setup some file I missed?
I configured qmail to deliver mails to /var/spool/mail through procmail.
The docs seem to recommend "~user/Mailfolder" instead. Any comments? Also
is there a utility to configure procmail and create the correct config
file? I have not yet setup procmail in any way, which means it should be
delivering to the "default system mail-box" according to the manpage. Is
that the same as the $MAIL value in the env?
Sameer.
