Chances are VSNL is using something other than the /etc/passwd file
(anyone remember the weird combination of normal and shadow passwords in
the passwd file, none of which worked when passed through a password
cracker?). They must have configured their POP server to use the correct
authentication system (PAM module?) but forgot about PINE.
