Nope. A Window Manager is responsible for helping your manage windows.
Visually, that's the titlebar and window focus, but there are far more
things to be done behind the scenes.
A desktop environment is a collection of similar looking tools designed
to integrate with each other. A window manager is just one component of
a desktop environment.
On the window manager front, I started with Enlightenment too, but soon
found it way too sluggish for my comfort. Switched to WindowMaker, loved
it, but soon found it getting in my way. Switched to IceWM, loved it,
but found it too drab and primitive.
Now I use Sawmill, and love it. And I don't see myself switching to
another anytime in the forseeable future. Sawmill looks like
Enlightenment (although it still lacks some of the feel), is blazing
fast, and best of all, is extensible using an Emacs-Lisp like language.
I don't use Emacs yet, and I don't know much Lisp/Rep either, but I've
already managed to do some really neat stuff with it.
And what does my desktop typically look like? Imagine 20
semi-transparent terminals spread across multiple desktops. I have some
screenshots up at www.ufies.org/~trion/shots/
