No way man! I don't agree with any of this! Rs.100 a month is way too much!!
I agree that students need not have a concession, but consider this - I am
a member of an Amateur Astronomers' group called the "Khagol Mandal", and
the membership fee is only _75 bucks a year_. This collection is used for
expenses like telescopes, presentation hardware, volunteer expenses,
administrivia, members' projects ... The only other source of funds is
through public shows, but even that is just 20 bucks per head for one-night
demonstrations every month, most of which is used up in setting them up
anyway! And what's the life membership fee? Believe it or not, Rs.500!! Now
that's what I call *nominal*!!
Why on earth will ilug-bom need to collect a whopping Rs.1200 per member
per year? I really don't understand. I can understand Nag's expenses, but
we can always do what the Bangloreans do - share the expenses of every
meet! And we should definitely consider presentations, workshops as a
source of "royalty" (I don't know if that's the right word), which can be
used to help cover ILUG-Bom expenses (maybe we need to list what qualifies
under this ...)
And whoever wants to consider this as "fees" for your enlightenment, surely
missed the point of a "User Group"! This is and should remain a public body
to help newbies and experts alike in enhancing their knowledge by sharing
experiences ... dont't try to commercialize it!
Sameer.
