You missed the point. This not about
commercialisation of ILUG but about creating a
strong public body for promoting free OS (not
just Linux???). The issues involved are way
beyond hobbies, amateurs etc. although they will
be the worst (and first ???) affected. Please
note I am not trying to disparage the amateur or
hobbyist. I see numerous and very important roles
for the ILUG and this will cost money. Let's not
wait for the need to arise but anticipate and
plan ahead. My suggestion for Rs.1200/- is
extremely feasable (the cable opertaor charges
120 bucks for dishing out crap). Tea and biscuits
- go to the local Udipi joint. Promoting Linux
and the free OS is actually promoting the spread
of IT at grass roots and the benefits accruing is
greater than CATV (ok, ok I too watch the
heroines doing their jig). You would have to Xply
the astro club fees if a certain Mr. Gates would
have got to see the stars first. Also if you try
to do sophisticated star watching the cost would
reach the stars. Time lapse photography, image
caputre etc. It depends on what your aims and
goals are. (incidentally i built my first
telescope when I was 8yrs. and there were no
kits- 100x, 3 lenses, card board tube and no
stand- got a permanent crick in the neck watching
moon craters).
