And some of us stay in S'cruz and never take a 2 hour bus ride to HBCSE.

I think a regular meet is good cuz ... u can get only so much info on the
list itself. YOU can read a howto... but talking to someone who knows a
particular product or set of products is very very informative. You can get
pre-digested information that way. (depends...not too many ppl who know
stuff) and yet another good reason to meet is that you can see what the
others look like. I kinda have stereotypes for most ppl in the list. Dunno
how they'd look in person.
Then there's networking. You can get jobs offers and well all kinds of work
offers or good ppl (to employ of contract stuff too...) but there again...
I feel the really good ppl (to employ) already have enuff offers.
I never attend because... I have attened one or two LUG meets... long ago.
They sucked. Plain. Nothing really got accomplished. Two hours.. of travel
time ...
Never attended at meet at HBCSE yet tho.
What I think is :
Not many ppl want to listen to lectures( or speeches). Some do tho. But LUG
meets don't seem like the right place; The net provides this fabulous access
to information. Why would u listen to someone (often with bad presentation
skills) talk about 'current buzzword' when u can read all about it at the
official website ?
Nah ... but u might wanna listen to a frnd in a informal cluster tell you
all about this cool new technology. Everybody has his clique. That's where
he wants the info from cuz it's incredibly interactive. you can talk back
and you know the guy who's speaking and he's never nervous ...
Everyone wants to share something. (or can if made too...:)
Lists or mail are not good for feedback.
Then theres info that ppl might not put onto a list ; Like
'how many hits does that new site of yours .. www.whatever.com yet ? That
many ? cool ! Where from ? Yeah mysql sucks to configure' -- This would need
voice .. or face 2 face communication.
So what Kiran proposed sounds cool.
I mean regular meets; more FUN. ppl come up and talk about what' they want.
5 mins per person sorta thingy. Kinda like a b'day party (awhile back ..
today everybody just drinks and pukes) ... ppl get introduced .... what's it
called now ? breaking the ice ?
