Ithink  in all thebrowsers that I use you can disble  thisand use custom
colours and evencustom style sheets.
Whenyou see how Amaya (W3Cs own browser) renders style sheets -
http://www.lordofhell.com/ as anexample -  or see how IE renders stylesheets
of Netscape manuals then you'll see that tables are the better option.
