Time stamping on WiFi interfaces would require support in the Linux kernel wireless stack. It would not be a huge change, but some work would need to be done. However, there is little point in doing this work. The fundamental blocking issue is the proprietary firmware blobs running in the radio chips. These would need to be changed to support such functionality. Most likely we would need both the firmware source code and the documentation of the radio chips themselves. Based on my industry experience, I doubt anything will ever change in this particular area. The blame lies squarely on the vendors of WiFi chips.
