It seems your compiler flags is set to a very strict level, which makes 
the compiler to warn on a lot of things and treat some of the warnings 
as errors. When I build (with 1.6.0_21), I get five warnings about 
Paint9Painter and nothing else.

Not much help, I know, but I can run Fantasia with 1.6.0_21 without 
problems.

This must be unrelated. Fantasia doesn't use any C libs or headers.
