I probably have to ask somebody at Steinberg what's the deal for this disguise 
regarding the VST 2 SDK now. I wonder whether there is some legal reason or 
whether they just want to force developers moving to VST3 now.

There are some other sources, for instance I see some fairly old VST 2.4 SDK 
zip files from 2006 on the infamous internet archive website, the should work, 
but OTOH I think I don't have such old version copies of the official VST SDKs 
here anymore. Otherwise I would have told you just their (e.g. MD5, SHA256) 
checksums so that you could verify by yourself that they are actually 
identical with Steinberg's official releases back then.

Maybe somebody else on the list still has such an old VST 2.4 SDK and might 
share the checksums for verification.
