Hmm, I couldn't tell you, it's been so long since I've run the default OS.

I used to worry about disk access on the SSD but I've since been
accepting the default installation settings.  I've heard (read)
studies stating that SSD's can outlast a HDD in many cases.  Of course
it's easy to replace a HDD and not a SSD.

But since you can now get SDHC with 16gb storage capacity for a
reasonable price, It's super simple to have your netbook boot and run
from a SDHC.

BTW - I own the original 7 inch EeePC w/4gb SSD

I understand that noatime can also be used for better performance, but
I can't tell the difference.
