Hello fellow Linux users,

If any of you would like to make a little extra money in this nasty
economy, I have some Linux desktop PC setup work that I would like to
hire someone from this group to do for me.

I want to hire someone to come to my facility in San Diego County and to
perform the following work on a Slackware Linux desktop machine:

1. Set up and configure the X11 display;
2. Assist in the selection and setup of a window manager matching my
   Spartan philosophy;
3. Set up and configure some decent version of Mozilla Firefox or some
   other browser that meets the F/OSS definition and which would provide
   web browsing capabilities no worse than those enjoyed by users of
   consumer operating systems like Weendoze or Ubuntu. Compilation from
   source may be required.

Additional work we may want depending on how well you do the above and
depending on the available budget:

* Install and set up OpenOffice or some other F/OSS software that can
  grok .doc, .rtf and .odt files - again compilation from source may be
  required. Here I'm mostly interested in a piece of software that can
  read in a .doc/.rtf/.odt file, run it through its text formatting
  engine, and spit out PostScript or PDF output. From what I understand
  one can do this with OO by opening a document and selecting "Print" or
  "Save As" the right format. I am additionally interested in finding
  some way to do this *without* bringing up the GUI, i.e., to invoke
  OO's document printing / format conversion engine from the command
  line without having an X11 display.

* Set up and configure audio - say, to the point where a user can play
  MP3s from the command line.

* Set up and configure video - say, to the point where a user can watch
  a YouTube video or a DVD, with working audio.

But here is one gotcha - all this MUST be done under Slackware.
Replacing Slackware with a different distro is NOT permissible. Why?
Because the person paying (me) says so.

Any takers?
