I am going to start working on building a database driven website, and I am
now deciding on what
Linux distro I want to use.

I don't want to us ubuntu, since it will have so many services available out
of the box which I will neither
want or use. Although many services will neither installed nor started, I do
not want them in available in
any way for security concerns.

I'm thinking mostly of using:

Debian
CentOS
Gentoo

I remember that CentOS had a serious problem with their developers.
I don't want a distro that will fall to the wayside.
What I need to determine is what **distro I should go with for the long
term.** I want something that I can get familiar with so that I can develop
an understanding for how to secure it for use on the internet as a
production
box.

Something that I won't to pay for is pretty much a necessity.
So it will have to be something that will have really good community
support.

If anyone has suggestions or comments, I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Paul
