I've been running Unity since I read the announcement. It has quite a
few bugs and takes some getting use to. I already prefer it over
Gnome. it actually runs somewhat on top of Gnome. Still relies on
Nautilus. I like when I can favor the keyboard over the mouse. Unity
does this in a much more user friendly way then say Xmonad. While the
mouse isn't irrelevant its use is simplified via the interface.

I say a fork is in order. Miguel de icaza (Gnome creator and now
MS/.net fanboy working for Novell) has stated he plans to continue
integration of mono into Gnome. Mono being a "free software"
implementation of Microsoft's .NET. Between him and Greg Kroah-Hartman
Microsoft is sinking its patents deeper into Linux/Open Source.
