I can't answer the apple questions as well as the others but I do own a 3G iPad, what can you do on it you can't on something else? Nothing really, I use it for both work and home, I use July and Netflix while traveling and various ereaders. It is fast to boot almost insta on. Decent connectivity. It still has a bug that you have to turn off wifi then on to connect.
I connected to all of the links you listed. In atomic and safari. The ssh I used a free emulator app that supports ssh and vnc connections. And yes reply to emails (at bar on iPad). Keyboards there are several on the market. Most force you to dock the pad and that makes it portrait only. I don't use one actually returned mine from lack of use. iPad is great for lounging with or out and about. I'll use my computer when doing spread sheets or lots of typing.
