I talked tons of trash about Macs years ago because I knew nothing about
them. I've been using a MacBook Pro for almost 3 years now (different
models), for 7 months in 2010 I used my unibody 15" exclusively, SSHing into
remote machines to compile, write code, and anything else I needed Linux
for. I honestly never thought I could live without all my machines and
using all the gear I've bought over the years, but I really can with a Mac
laptop.

Linux is great and all, but not for a lot of things. I always disliked Mac
OSX because it felt like I was being treated like a child. Not enough
options, but then there was Linux that was over the top with everything
being a config file (exaggeration but you know what I mean), then there was
Windows that always gave me the right amount of power. My opinion has
changed, and while I still feel OSX could give me more options, I find I
don't need them as much as I thought I did. I still use a Linux workstation
every day, and I have a Windows machine that is only turned on when I have
photos to process and a few tasks Linux/Mac suck at. I'm getting ready to
replace that Windows machine with an iMac because the new ones are awesome.

I second Chris's recommendation on the trackpad. I have always hated Mac as
a desktop because it just feels funny to me, I can't explain it, but things
just feel different and I was never able to get over it. The laptop with
the trackpad and expose helps me to be far more productive than any desktop
has ever been (I'm a pretty productive person as it is). Multitouch makes a
huge difference when you have to scroll up and down a page really quickly.
A mouse and trackball just aren't the same.
