Mark Shuttleworth is a crack baby IMO.

Unexpectedly, Canonical has decided that it is time for the Software
Center to replace Synaptic as well. So, in the next daily build of
Ubuntu 11.10, Synaptic will no longer be installed by default. The
Software Center?!!!

First he ditches Gnome and now Synaptic. Sure, Wayland is a welcome
step away from X but the Software Center?!!! What next, The APT
package manager replaced by Yast?

Argh.,,
OK, "crack baby"is harsh, but, I do not see the advantage of forcing a
program on users when most never open it. This is like deleting
ThunderBird from the Universe repository and adding Kmail to the
default Ubuntu installation (no offense Jeff). Why not Konqueror for
FireFox.
