Ive been installing gnome-panel on the 12.04 desktops I have. I have upgraded from Lubuntu 10.04 (twice) to Lubuntu 12.04 without issues. Lubuntu 12.04 has also fixed some issues with (i.e., wiimote drivers work again) on my HTPC.
