Just adding my 10 cents worth. I think nx or freenx is by far superior to anything VNC can offer. It uses SSH tunneling so it is secure out-of-the-box. It yields better performance over WAN or broadband links than VNC. It's much easier to install and configure. Mac, Linux and Windows clients are supported.
