-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This is a Linux question indeed, though the answer really depends on what version of the WRT54 you have. I personally have the WRT54G v4...Tomato is an upgrade, but not as feature rich as DDWRT. Some prefer Tomato's simplicity; there are tons of things in DDWRT that you may not use(depends on your router version). If you are a real nuts and bolts guy, go for OpenWRT.
OpenWRT's is more like a base distro, which allows for more space to install ipkg packages. You add the packages you want or remove those you don't want. DDWRT has a fantastic web gui that you can jump right into without reading a wiki. I started off with OpenWRT, but stopped using it because the SNMP package would crash the router(on White Russian rc4). I have been on DDWRT for over a year and it is nice indeed. I am considering going back to OpenWRT, because it's a more serious solution, rather than a prepackaged bundle of options that are somewhat static. OpenWRT makes you interact with the system, so if you don't like typing commands, stay away from it. With DDWRT I barely ssh into the system, but I prefer the CLI. I'd suggest you go with DDWRT and not look back...OpenWRT when you hit walls within DDWRT(that may take a while).
