On both of my machines, I've ditched Ubuntu and ubuntu based distros
and am using Debian Lenny, which is the current stable branch.  IMHO,
Debian Stable has much better support for hardware with the downside
being a bit more configuration on the front-end.  Debian caters to a
different crowd that Ubuntu.  Ubuntu goes after the latest, greatest,
and newest.  If it doesn't work on some older hardware, that's just
too bad.  Ubuntu's software is pretty much the same as Debian
Testing.  Yeah, you may not get to use the latest greatest software,
but Debian Stable is solid as a rock.  I've never had an issue with
software from the repos in Debian Stable.
