Bryan,

I have no idea why the Xorg -configure generated file detects a double GPU
setup. The machine I'm doing this on is a laptop. The xdm and slim
managers offer me no help because I can't get to a shell in anything but the
working 2.6.26 kernel. I even tried dumping gdm until I realized it would
take out gnome-desktop-environment as well. I also purged and reinstalled
xserver-xorg like you suggested - no change.

I'll give the rest of the day for other suggestions - and then tomorrow I'm
going to wipe and reinstall. I probably should do that anyway because the
dist-upgrade to squeeze broke. You now need to use a new script called
smxi. I should probably pay more attention to which kernel I'm allowing to
be installed as well as what else is going on. Before dist-upgrade broke, I
actually had squeeze working. I shouldn't have abandoned it. I guess
hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions,
Scott
