Funny you should mention that. I moved from Mandriva to Ubuntu (while waiting
for Mageia to come out). I've been pretty happy with Ubuntu, though I like the
Mandriva admin tools better. However, I had the keyboard thing happen to me,
too. Had to power-cycle the box. And I I, don't think it's a resource issue
with me -- mine's a AMD Turon II,
4GB RAM, 500GB disk w/ 10 GB swap.
So far it's just happened once in about two months of continuous use.

At least that is what I am facing on my single core Pentium 4, Ubuntu 10.04.
Some people says that is due to bad memory in the system, or not enough swap,
however it is
very annoying.
Perhaps a smaller distro will be a better choice under these sircumstances or a
non linux OS such as freeBSD I don't know.
If somebody else has a solution for this problem I am listening it.
