I'm sure it will start more bashing, but if you want a distro that "just works" use Linux Mint (not Linux Mint Debian Edition).
True GNU fans will hate Mint because it comes with flash and other non open source software, but it also comes with almost every driver I've ever needed to use. My 7 yr old daughter installed Linux Mint and uses it on her laptop. She has downloaded a variety of edu software. I use Linux Mint on my desktop for home use and on a desktop connected to my TV for online video (you tube, hulu, etc). It's done a variety of things extremely well. It's kinda bloated (DVD download) but thats what you usually end up with when you are looking for a distro that "just works" -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Linux Users Group.
