To be safe, I installed all recommended updates to my system. There
were a few updates to Firefox, but nothing specifically about a flash
player. After updating, I still can't watch YouTube videos. Can I
conclude therefore that the flash player on the Ubuntu servers is
outdated/incompatible? How might I check the version before I waste
time with apt-get?

If I choose to go the apt-get route, can I invoke apt-get from (a)
anywhere in the system or (b) do I need to be in the target directory?
If (b), which directory should I be in?
