You directly jump to step two dude. What about kernel configuration? And it has nothing to do with Red Hat 9. It has everything to do with kernel 2.4. You need the option (I don't know which, because I haven't used 2.4 for over a year and half) enabled in the kernel. If you have it built-in, all the insmod steps would be unnecessary. If you choose to build it as a module, then insmod would be necessary. Also, there's no such thing as ide-scsi emulation in kernel 2.6. My suggestion, get off Red Hat for a while, go out there and explore Debian and especially Slackware for a while. Tell me you're good at using Linux if you can master Slackware.
