the tip was meant for Fedora core 3 user... it was a copy-paste of what i wrote for those who are in the stage of migration. I have tried a few other distro.. but i find it difficult to find time for experiments now..as I am employed in a non-linux environment. Most stuff here are based on Windows except for the proxy and mail server :D

I am trying hard to get as much Linux as possible into the Windows friendly environment.... from whatever i can learn on the internet. My idea is to tell people first that Linux has a GUI and then try and show then what they can do from the Shell. Its an attempt from a lone guy a (me) here at Jasubhai! I agree that i am not as good as some of you guys are... may be becos you guys are more exposed to the Linux sector than I am. I have even forgotten most things i had learnt but still i am trying to do my bit as much as i can for Linux.

I am not sure if Mrugesh is rite in saying 'there is nothing as ide-scsi emulation'. I had used 2.4 kernel (RH9) about an year ago and cdrecord worked fine without a glitch. And the same didnt happen with FC3 instead it gave errors that made no sense at all !
i did what i had mentioned in my earlier mail and everythig worked fine and its still working... so y rebuild a kernel for modular support! I would do that only if there is more to achieve... not for making cdrecord work. K3b is a very good alternative for writing cds and there are lot more you can do with it if its hard to get cdrecord to work.

as for talking about redhat.... well dude how can u say that i am redhat fan... i am not! This may be my 2nd or 3rd post here. But like you said.. i am not that geeky with Linux either. I understood what Debian is when i discovered the immense support it has. Try searching for anything debian on google (leave alone google/linux) ... the very first link is what you want and need. And it is relatively sound and better than Redhat any given day.

okay.. heres one for all...
Our posts are readable to outsiders... if you search on the internet; meaning that messages posted here are open to anyone to read. And none of the seniors here who have the experience has used it to guide newbies like me in this group and outside to learn and gain more knowledge.

My suggestion is.. that guys who know the in and out of Linux should use this space as an opening to those who dont! Take a look at the message box.. it is full of HELP messages. If that is what this group is meant for.. then it is really sad. Of course such things cant be regular posts but as and when you come across something post it.

adios

Mrugesh - cranky mood doesnt help in apprehension nor in appreciation of what you have to say.. leaves the person involved in a confused state too! remember "Men don't get periods to be in weird moods"

You directly jump to step two dude. What about kernel
configuration? And it has nothing to do with Red Hat
9. It has everything to do with kernel 2.4. You need
the option (I don't know which, because I haven't used
2.4 for over a year and half) enabled in the kernel.
If you have it built-in, all the insmod steps would be
unnecessary. If you choose to build it as a module,
then insmod would be necessary.

Also, there's no such thing as ide-scsi emulation in
kernel 2.6.

My suggestion, get off Red Hat for a while, go out
there and explore Debian and especially Slackware for
a while. Tell me you're good at using Linux if you can
master Slackware.

Good email, but you guys really really need to get
some real Linux knowledge because Red Hat is NOT the
only Linux!
