Sounds like what I went through. Can't explain, but: I installed wacom-tools, then, magically, /dev/input/wacom -> event5 appeared.
I changed xorg.conf to driver /dev/input/wacom and everything started working. stylus etc also then showed up in Gimp so I could do settings. for the contact problem, you need something like option "threshold" "10" If that doesn't help, send your xorg.conf to the mailing list.
