I also don't predict a decline in mailing list use for the foreseeable
future. There will always be a need for managed discussion groups.
For the moment, mailing lists are the best way to fill this need.
There are some interesting developments in alternative technologies.
Time will tell if a new technology will displace mailing lists as the
preferred method to host Internet forums... It could happen. I'm not
holding my breath.
Judging by the number of subscribers who still prefer digests, I also
doubt we've seen the end of their popularity.
