The translation is wrong. For you who can read Kanji, go check out the Japanese version.

The "370 million" is not refering to anything about money/yen, but "unit":

"累計販売個数はなんと3億7000万個である"

Babelfish translation:

"The sum total sale quantity is as many as 3 hundred million 7000 ten thousand"

It's saying the accumulative Gunpla sales has been 370 million unit (since day 1 of gunpla sales, I believe).

But don't blame the translator. That paragraph start talking about yen price of Gunpla first then suddenly turn to sales figure.

I was reading the English article on Mainichi and somethings just look
wrong... 370million yens?  WTH?  That's the annual revenue from
Japan???  Under US$3.5mil???

Then I got Babelfish to translate the article from Japanese again.
Gosh the "offical" English version is AWFUL.  300 Yens in the Japanese
article became 3000 Yens in the English.  370 Million units (kits?)
became 370 Million Yens.

Mainichi is mainstream news in Japan isn't it?  Just unbelieveable.
