You're preaching to the converted in my case. I have, here at my work
desk, a beautiful Vectrex that I bought off of eBay recently. And stuck
into the cart slot is a homebrew game. Two games, really, Y.A.S.I. (Yet
Another Space Invaders) and Protector, a spot on (except for no
hyperspace) version of Defender. Games need to play well, first, middle
and last. I don't care how good/bad the graphics are. Star Castle has
dick for graphics, same for Tempest, Galaxian, Breakout, Rip-Off,
Missile Command, Star Trek, etc., etc. But I'd play those over and over
before caring about the next Grand Theft Auto or Halo game.
Having said that, the preview I saw of the new Mobile Suit Gundam game
(seems to be in the 08th MS Team setting) makes me want to buy an XBox
360 (or whatever systems that new game is on). But it's not because of
the graphics, it's because I want to play decent Gundam games, dammit!!
My cousin was just over this weekend and had an XBox 360 with him.
Yawn, as far as the games he had on it went. I was more interested in
playing the downloaded Gauntlet and Robotron than the fighting game he
had on there. My brother played that one with him and another cousin
for a while and finally said "Ok, I'm done with this game, it's just a
bunch of button pushing." Whatever happened to a well thought out game
like Xevious?
