Just remembered one thing: In terms of resources, we do have some
canonical explanation why Zeon could do so... remember what M'Quve
said after the end of Odessa? he said that Zeon had collected enough
resources to fight the war for years. So basically they have
"refills" from earth between Operation Britain and Odessa.

Yes, it's okay to spend a bit of excess money when your rich, but
if you go insane with frivolous spending, you'll end up poor in the
long run.
The Feds. seem to be a conservative spender when compared to Zeon.
Zeon spends money on expensive "one offs" like Mobile Armor's.
While the Feds. did a mass production "spin off" of the Gundam, the
GM.
Although, as we know, the Zeon shoulder ram/bash is a logical
reason for the "decorative" shoulder spike.

The key word here is *flamboyant*. Compare to the Federation
with its
plain grey uniforms and angular MS that really do look like war
machines, despite the fact that the Federation probably have a
lot more
resources to burn.
Totally agreed, so what does it mean??
That the Zeon are making a display of conspicuous consumption,
showing that although the Federation tried to impoverish them,
they don't need to ration fabric, or the amount of workers it
takes to make those ridiculous uniforms, or water to wash all that
hair. They are saying "Look! We have resources to burn Do you?"
I will admit to bringing everything down into the economical, in
the final analysis. Although it's a retcon, I will point to Delaz
at the end of the OYW. He's wearing a classic Zeon uniform--but
he's added a COAT. I shudder to think of what the Zeon economy
looked like when the Federation finally marched in.
Boaz's pointing out the monarchial nature of Side 3 also plays
into it, but I think in the choice of clothing design and how
retro it is.
Vis-a-vis nothing at all, I'm reading "Mao: The Untold Story" by
Jang Chung. I really, really need to start reading more Chinese
history, from no matter what era.
