That the Zeon are making a display of conspicuous consumption, showing
that although the Federation tried to impoverish them, they don't need
to ration fabric, or the amount of workers it takes to make those
ridiculous uniforms, or water to wash all that hair.  They are saying
"Look!  We have resources to burn  Do you?"

I will admit to bringing everything down into the economical, in the
final analysis.  Although it's a retcon, I will point to Delaz at the
end of the OYW.  He's wearing a classic Zeon uniform--but he's added a
COAT.  I shudder to think of what the Zeon economy looked like when the
Federation finally marched in.


See if I'm reading this right. The flamboyant nature of Zeon design is a part of propaganda that "you can't starve spacenoid to death!".

Reminded me of North Korea or PRC during the cultural revolution.
